Disney's Construction Wall Adventure!

In my last post, "California Adventure's 10th Anniversary....Who Cares?", we saw just a couple of the construction walls over at DCA, but I had a few requests to see more of the character artwork that I had only mentioned. These first six photos show the walls located at the entrance of the park.

The concept art below is also from the entrance area.

These next four photos are of the walls in the Paradise Pier area of the park. The first one shows an announcement of a new park that is going into the spot previously occupied by the Maliboomer. Just what I've always wanted to see added to DCA, a lush new park! A park will be so much more enjoyable than something like an actual ride!

I do have to say that I like the use of the "pie-eyed" versions of the Fab Five.

Next, are some close-ups of the construction walls around Carsland.

The Little Mermaid attraction.......

These last five photos aren't of construction walls, but they show a new map that is on display in the Blue Sky Cellar. It is "rear-lit" and features animation of the Monorail, Red Cars, and Carsland Road Racer vehicles moving around on their tracks as well as other animation such as the water for the Wonderful World of Color show and klieg lights in front of the Carthay Circle Theater.

Thanks for posting Tokyo. Living some 2000 miles away, I haven't had the chance to see any of the construction wall artwork in person. I've been following the changes to DCA via forums and blogs, but my last visit to the park was way back in 2001 (and we were NOT impressed). Looking forward to returning in 2012 though!

Don't you just love all those classic characters? I hope they are a sign of things to come to DCA!

I highly recommend a podcast called The Disneyland Gazette. You don't need an ipod - you can listen from you computer. These guys put on a great podcast.

Check out their site:

Wow, great pictures! I really do enjoy seeing the "vintage" Disney character designs in Paradise Pier (it's great to see Oswald and Pegleg Pete!). It would be really nice to see an attraction featuring all these wonderful characters.

I guess if you're gonna have construction walls for a long time, you might as well try to make them fun. And I admit that it does make me anxious to see what will spring up behind them. Some of those other walls look like the old water decals that folks stuck on their campers and station wagons.

I'd love to see that lit-up sign with the moving vehicles, is the effect pretty cool? I realize that I am probably imagining it to be much neater than it is.

SWS, You are welcome! I'm glad I've been able to keep you up to date....just as you have kept me posted with the upcoming changes to WDW's Fantasyland!

Connie, I do like all those classic characters and I also hope that they are a "sign."

And Dan, yes....I would LOVE to see an attraction featuring all of these characters. Something like that could even work in Toontown. Why have they never done an attraction featuring at least the Fab Five????

Major, the animation on that map is actually a pretty cool effect. I liked it. I don't usually video tape things at the park, but if I remember, I'll take my video camera with me next time and get some footage of the map and then post it.

Once again (as it was 10 years ago) the most exciting thing about DCA is the construction walls! Only this time we kinda know what were getting....

That map looks pretty darn cool, might have to wonder over to the former parking lot and check it out. Nice post, Thanks!

VDT, you are right when you say we "kinda" know what we are getting. I hate to be negative, but, Disney has disappointed us before....on MANY occasions. I am hoping for the best, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Concerning the classic characters on the construction walls. Does anyone know if the kitten behind Horace Horsecollar has a name?

BTW - There's a Hidden Mickey in that interactive DCA map inside Blue Sky Cellar.

Finding Mickey, that's a good question. I don't know if that kitten does have a name...but I do like him!

I was going to ask you where the hidden Mickey was in the map, but I think I spotted it. It's just inside the entrance, right?

I am dying to know who that kitten is too! I have been looking all over the internet and can't find reference to it anywhere!!!
