In the Summer of 1978, The Family Circus comic strip followed "the family" as they visited Disneyland, over a period of 27 consecutive days. I will be posting a "week's worth" of those comics at the end of every week, within the month of July. This is "Part 2." Please check back each week for a new set! And to see "Part 1," click HERE.

For the 2015 republishing of this panel (for Disneyland's 60th anniversary), Jeff Keane had altered his dad's original caption by replacing "The Bee Gees," with "Justin Bieber."
My favorite caption is the August 2, 1978 Matterhorn caption and the Bear Country caption.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew the title of the published Family Circus book that has these Disneyland comics.
Again, love all the little Disneyland details in these comics. Thanks, TM!
Ken, those are also my favorite two panels from this set!
ReplyDeleteI tried looking for the Family Circus book on ebay, after Mike Cozart and "Kathy!" mentioned them in their comments on my last post. Unfortunately, there were too many Family Circus books listed, and the ebay sellers haven't specified whether any of them contain Disney-related comics.
Ah, there’s the Bear Country one I remembered! Glad you were able to update with the missing comics in the last post. If I find my little compilation book, I’ll let everyone know the title. The book also only included the weekday single-panel comics so the Sunday ones are new to me.
ReplyDeleteKathy!, there are three Sunday panels in total, so I'm glad that there will be something new for you to see in these posts. Thanks again, for sharing those two panels that I was missing! And yes, please do share the title of the book, if/when you come across it!
ReplyDeleteThe "Pottyland" cartoon makes me think of a joke Neil Patrick Harris told when I saw him as the narrator of the WDW Candlelight Processional a few years ago. He said, "Now that I have little kids, all I want is a SlowPass to the Nap Ride."
ReplyDeleteMelissa, ha, ha! And if Disney did offer something like that, they would charge extra for it!
ReplyDeleteMore fun stuff. I'm afraid I just can't deal with a nudist colony joke, because I am so easily offended. Check out the "You must be as tall as this sign" detail, Bil Keane nailed it! I'd love to know if the Disney company was aware of this series. Maybe Glen was already working as an animator at that point? As a big Justin Beiber fan (or "Belieber", as I like to be called), I like the updated zinger!
ReplyDeleteMajor, that's a good question about whether or not the Disney company knew about this series in advance. And I didn't know you were a Belieber! I'm a Fanilow, myself.
