The Dining Rooms of Club 33

This is Part 4 of my Disneyland "Club 33" series.

Club 33 has two dining rooms. We'll take a look at the Main Dining Room first.

In the photo above, a fireplace can be seen off to the far right. Below, is a close-up shot.

We were told by the staff that the restaurant had recently been refurbished/redecorated.

This next photo was taken a few years ago by Dave of Daveland (used here with permission....thanks, Dave!)

Compare Dave's photo with the one above it and the one below. All of the woodwork....the crown molding, wainscoting, and the French doors....have all been stripped of their paint and now have a dark wood finish. Even the ceiling medallions above the chandeliers have been stripped and refinished. I'm wondering if the painted wood was original to Club 33 when it opened in 1967, or if it was painted over at some point during the restaruant's 43 years?

A close-up of the draperies.......

....and one of the chandeliers.

Shades have been added over all the light bulbs.

Close-ups of some of the artwork........

The second dining room is the Trophy Room, also referred to as the Disney Room in the Club 33 history sheet that's posted inside the menus. Camera flash reflection....D'OH!!!

This room happens to be located above the foyer of the Blue Bayou Restaurant.

According to Wikipedia, "Walt Disney wanted to make use of Audio-Animatronic technology within Club 33. Microphones in overhead lighting fixtures would pick up the sounds of normal conversation while an operator would respond via the Audio-Animatronic characters. Though the system was never fully implemented, it was partially installed and remains so to this day. An Audio-Animatronic vulture is perched in one corner of the club's "Trophy Room." The microphones are clearly visible at the bottom of each of the room's lighting fixtures. The animal trophies (Walt inherited them from a friend), for which the room was named, have since been removed by Disney family members."

Sorry, I didn't get close-ups of the microphones on the chandeliers, but you will see the vulture at the end of this post.

Some close-ups of the room's decor....

These aren't real taxidermied animals. I don't know the back story on these. Perhaps they were replacements for the real animals that were removed....or maybe they are stand-ins for some of the audio-animatronic figures that were never installed......

....but here is that Audio-Animatronic vulture. Too bad Walt's original plan to have it speak was never carried through!

In my next post, we'll take a look at Lounge Alley and one of the Restrooms at Club 33 (yes I took pictures inside the restroom.....hey, nobody else was in there at the time!)

Dining At Club 33

This is Part 3 of my Disneyland "Club 33" series.

After arriving at our table, we are handed a menu.

On one side is the menu listing.

On the other side, is the history of Club 33.

A variety of wines are available including those from the winery of the late Fess Parker (Davy Crockett.)

Cocktails are also available from the bar, which is located in "Lounge Alley."

There's a pair of these lights on the bar....one on each corner. Note the Pirates of the Caribbean artwork in the background.

The bartender was very nice. Even though I wasn't drinking, he gave me a drink stirrer and a small plastic pick from the bar.

.....and a cocktail napkin!

I'm not sure how Dinner works, but for Lunch there is an all you can eat appetizer and salad bar.

Your entree is brought to your table. This is the pan seared Chateaubriand.

And this is the organic free range chicken with truffled macoroni and cheese. I thought the food was excellent!

After the meal, there is an all you can eat dessert bar. The desserts were wonderful too!

If you are celebrating a special occasion, the server will bring a special dessert!

Specially wrapped Club 33 chocolates are brought to the table at the end of the meal!

Next time, we'll take a detailed look at the Dining Rooms of Club 33.

Arriving at Club 33

This is Part 2 of my Disneyland "Club 33" series. After checking in at Guest Relations (outside the park), visitors to Club 33 are given a 1 day park hopper ticket.

The entrance to Club 33 can be found just to the right of the entrance to the Blue Bayou Restaurant in New Orleans Square.

Club 33 is named after it's street address, 33 Royal St.

Behind this small brass plate is a doorbell. After ringing, a host/hostess will answer via the intercom.

After being buzzed in, guests check in at this host/hostess station just inside the doorway. The candlestick telephone actually works!

If we turn back around, we have a better view of the stained glass window that we saw above the doorway outside.

To our left is an old-fashioned "French Lift" elevator.

For guests that prefer not to ride in the elevator, there is a stairway.

We'll take the elevator....but it only holds 4 people at a time. It's a very tight fit!

This is the landing at the top of the stairway.

There is another host/hostess station just to the left of the elevator. Guests are greeted here and then escorted to their tables. Those are menus sitting on the small table.

On the way to our table, we pass a telephone booth that was used in the film, "The Happiest Millionaire."

Fred MacMurray and Greer Garson stood here!

After proceeding down "Lounge Alley" (which we will see in a future post), we arrive at our table located in the Main Dining Room.

There are still more parts to come in this series! Next we'll take a look at some of the food at Club 33.

Before Visiting Club 33

About two months ago, I had the opportunity to visit Club 33 at Disneyland for the very first time. Reservations for lunch or dinner need to be made 2-3 months in advance. After reservations are made, Guest Relations mails out the following information sheet.

Stay tuned....this is just the first part of a multiple part series on Club 33.
